You should check out Brian Berni's "Fiction Marketing Academy"

I just sent out an email about this: if you have any interest in marketing your books, especially self-published fiction, I really recommend Brian Berni’s summit next week: https://danieldavidwallace.com/fma

It’s free to attend live. Over the past year or so, I’ve worked with Brian both as a teacher and as a student — he is generous with his time, humble, and yet extremely capable.

(I am an affiliate, so I get a commission if you decide to buy some of the bonus content / lifetime access, but even if you just watch a couple of the sessions live, for free, it should be very helpful.)

Here are some of the talks Brian has told me about:

  • How to Build and Grow Your Author Platform to Find New Readers and Sell More Books, with Kirsten Oliphant
  • Unconventional List-Building Tactics to Grow your Fan-Base (Even if you’re Starting from Scratch), with Derek Murphy
  • Writing to Market, Minimum Viable Products and Meeting Readers’ Expectations, with Michael La Ronn
  • Boosting your visibility on non-Amazon retailers: decrypting the Apple Books, Google Play, & Kobo store algorithms, with Ricardo Fayet
  • Amazon Ads: How to Start, Mistakes to Avoid and a Few Ninja Tips Along the Way, with Felicia Beasley

I think this will be a great event.

Are the sessions geared primarily to self-published fiction?

Primarily but not entirely.

My understanding is that these days even traditional publishing expects authors to have some sort of author platform and contribute to the marketing effort with an online presence. Agents and editors will check to see what sort of platform a debut author has and that can help a new author’s chances of getting traditionally published. Conversely, the lack of one can hurt their chances.
