Reading Club Fridays: The Landlady

Where Daniel comes from (England), this story is a bit of an old favorite. You all know Roald Dahl as the writer of treasured children’s books like Matilda, James and the Giant Peach, The Witches and the BFG, but his work for adults is glorious.

In a word: disturbing. But that is Roald Dahl down to the core.

A good quick read, and images of terraced housing in Bath definitely came to mind (having lived nearby in Bristol briefly). I got the sense of an old-fashioned boarding house, and the isolation inside the house came across well, but I wonder whether this story would survive in the more modern world?
