I write fiction and nonficiton. I love stories of characters grappling with
worldview, moral, and social dilemmas, and navigating sense-making, meaning creation, and perceptions of identity continuity and change.
I’m drawn to speculative reality settings. My preference leans to sci-fi, though I dabble in other, mostly speculative realities. I enjoy future speculations, with both plausible and mystical elements, but I rarely read or write traditional fantasy.
I embrace the examples laid out by writers like Le Guin, Arthur C. Clarke, K. S. Robinson, Nancy Kress, Neal Stephenson, and many others, to tackle one or more big issues in a work and extrapolate from what exists and what’s emerging now to explore alternatives for how things could go.
Last year, I devoted my creative time to short stories. I entered 8 in contests and got honorable mentions for two of them.
This year, I’ve picked up a dusty half-novel manuscript and aim to have a draft 0 by the end of October.
I am retired from a career in information technology management, knowledge management, and process analysis, re-engineering, and automation. My education includes psychology, natural sciences, philosophy, systems science, information resources management, learning science, and educational technologies. I am a learning addict. Most of my current nonfiction reading involves human consciousness, neuroscience, psychology, sociology, cultural anthropology, advanced technogies, future projections, plant medicine and other psychedelics, and on and on.
I like to hike. I am learning Spanish, for travel, conversing, and reading. I spent two months in language immersion earlier this year. My proficiency improved significantly, but I have muchos kilometros to go.
