Escape the Plot Forest -- The Plotting Summit

James Scott Bell would be a great choice for the mystery/suspense/thriller genre. He is a prolific writer and an excellent speaker. He wrote a book on plotting, Write Your Novel From the Middle, which is eyeopening and enlightening. He has a YouTube channel, and there’s an interview on Writing Discipline and Mindset, and he blogs every Sunday on https://killzoneblog.com/author/jimbell. He can also be found on Twitter @jamesscottbell and his website is here.

I’ve taken a bunch of her courses on Udemy. Love her!

She says she’s taking a year off teaching. Next year, then!

Are you still looking for more suggestions for summit presenters?

I am watching a Reedsy writing webinar featuring Michelle Schusterman. She is speaking about writing and publishing Middle Grade books. I am finding her to be an exceptional speaker and knowledgeable.

Keep them coming! Not everyone is saying yes, so more suggestions are appreciated.

Is Derek Murphy (derekmurphy@creativindie.com) on your list yet? I figured he was well known enough that someone else may have mentioned him already but I’ll put his name forth just in case. He is primarily known for his generous self-publishing and marketing advice but he has a writing craft book on pre-order and has a few of his videos on plotting.

Another suggestion: Joe Nassise (jnassise@gmail.com).

I attended a webinar for his Story Engines system of planning a novel about a year or so ago. I recall he was an excellent speaker. He does writer coaching and mentoring in addition to being a bestselling fiction author.

Here is his website:

From his coaching page on the site:

Speaking Engagements
If you have a writing class or group and would like to receive a custom-tailored workshop or presentation, feel free to get in touch and discuss it with me. I can create a presentation for any size group or experience level and would be happy to do so for you.

Here is the link to the contact form but he probably responds directly to his email, too.

What about Eva Deverell? I’m subscribed to her newsletter and have watched several of her videos on her YouTube channel. I find her One Page Novel plotting structure intriguing, as well as her worldbuilding approach.

Michelle said yes! Great news.

Who is this teacher?

Her name is Addie Emmons. She has lots of YouTube videos and a good website https://www.abbiee.com. One reason I started watching her videos is that she uses Scrivener and I’m interested in ideas for how to use it. She also gives some templates as gifts.

I looked around his site but couldn’t see an email address! I signed up to his newsletter and nothing arrived…

Did the email address I provided next to his name not work?

Let me try that… & Joe Nassise just said he is interested! Thank you for the recommendation!

If I recall correctly, Derek has been living in Thailand so there is a timezone difference to consider in response time. He also mentioned in recent newsletters he has been having some visa troubles with staying there with his wife because of pandemic policies and nationality. I think he is worth pursuing but he may have his plate full with that and the many writing and editing projects he appears to have spread himself thin on recently.
